Explanation and justification
The history of mankind is also the history of violence – and its monopolization.
States have appropriated the sole monopoly on the use of force for centuries on the grounds that they wanted to guarantee order, security and stability.
But in truth, this monopoly on the use of force has been abused time and again:
For oppression, for discipline, for counterinsurgency, for warfare – against other peoples and their own.
This truth became particularly apparent in 2020 – painfully, but unmistakably:
Police units beating peaceful demonstrators.
Military deployed against their own people.
Threats of punishment against doctors, teachers, fathers of families.
Courts protecting power, not the people.
And all in the name of health, order and protection.
But who protects the people from an overreaching state?
The lesson of history
In those countries where the people were also physically able to defend themselves – such as in the USA with its 2nd Amendment -,
governments remained more restrained.
The state knew that it must no longer oppose the citizen as an enemy.
For the weapon that could subjugate him is not only in the hands of power – but also in the hands of the sovereign.
What needs to change
A new social contract for a peaceful future must not be based on the state’s monopoly on the use of force –
but on the responsibility of free citizens.
- The state should not possess weapons to target its own people.
- However, citizens may and must have the right to protect themselves, their family, their community and their country – even against an overbearing government if necessary.
- Because only those who can defend themselves are free.
Our position
We2030 says:
Violence must never again come from the state.
It must only come from the people – not as an attack, but as the last line of defense against injustice.
We demand the end of state armed power – and the return of responsibility to free society.
Not to provoke violence, but to make violence unnecessary.
Because no regime will be overbearing if it knows that power lies with the people – not only on paper, but also in reality.
Thesis 95: Violence must never again emanate from the state – but only from the people.
For only an armed sovereign is a truly free sovereign.
