Explanation and justification<\/h3>\n\n

Freedom of opinion is not a privilege, but a human right.<\/strong>It is non-negotiable, not dependent on majorities, not limited by ideologies or the zeitgeist.It applies to all people, on all topics, in all times.<\/strong> And it is particularly valuable when it protects uncomfortable, dissenting or provocative<\/strong> opinions.<\/p>\n\n

Freedom of opinion that only allows \u201cagreeable\u201d positions is not freedom – it is propaganda.<\/p>\n\n

The fundamental value of freedom of expression<\/h3>\n\n
    \n
  • It is the heart of every democracy<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • It enables dialog, debate, enlightenment and progress.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • It protects the individual from coercion and collective conformity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • It is a prerequisite for science, art, religion and political change.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

    Without freedom of expression, there can be no true knowledge, no political renewal and no personal dignity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

    \n\n

    The dangerous relativization<\/h3>\n\n

    In recent years, freedom of expression has been increasingly relativized<\/strong>, restricted or undermined by so-called \u201chate speech laws\u201d, \u201ccombating disinformation\u201d and \u201cplatform guidelines\u201d:<\/p>\n\n

      \n
    • Dissenting opinions are censored or algorithmically suppressed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Critics are publicly defamed, professionally devalued or legally prosecuted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Platforms and the media decide what is \u201cstill allowed to be said\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Opinions are no longer discussed – they are pathologized, criminalized or morally discredited.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

      This is no longer democracy – it is a dictatorship of opinion in digital guise.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

      Freedom of opinion is always also freedom to irritate<\/h3>\n\n

      The freedom to speak also includes:<\/p>\n\n

      • the right to be wrong,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • the right to be uncomfortable,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • the right to question social norms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

        Because only in a culture that can endure the uncomfortable can the true grow.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n
