Explanation and justification<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Human dignity is inviolable.This is stated in Article 1 (1) of the Basic Law – and this sentence is not a decor, not a quote for commemorative speeches, not a fair-weather principle.It is absolute<\/strong>.It does not apply conditionally, not depending on political situations, not only in times of stability or prosperity.It always<\/strong> applies.Even – and especially – in a state of emergency.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Because this is where it is decided whether a state and its society have actually internalized their own principles – or whether they are just paying lip service, which in the worst case scenario will give way like paper in the rain.<\/p>\n\n

\n\n

What does human dignity mean?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Human dignity is not a gift from the state.Nor is it an award for good behavior.It is a basic condition<\/strong> that is inherent in<\/strong> every human being – regardless of origin, age, health, political stance or lifestyle.<\/p>\n\n

Human dignity includes:<\/p>\n\n

    \n
  • the right to physical and mental integrity<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • respect for the individuality<\/strong> and life plan of every person<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the free development of<\/strong> thinking, feeling, believing, doubting and hoping<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the recognition of man as an end in himself<\/strong>, never as a means for others<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the right to make autonomous decisions about one’s own body and mind<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the right not to<\/strong> be manipulated, degraded or coerced<\/strong> <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the right to social participation<\/strong>, without discrimination, isolation or stigmatization<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the preservation of social identity<\/strong> – through clothing, language, name, world view and tradition<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the protection of privacy<\/strong>, the family, the home, correspondence<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the guarantee of not<\/strong> being treated arbitrarily or under duress<\/strong> – not even under the pretext of the common good<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

    Human dignity is the core of freedom<\/strong> – and the foundation of democracy<\/strong>.It must never be relativized.<\/p>\n\n

    \n\n

    What happened in times of crisis<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

    In recent years, a state of emergency – be it due to a pandemic, war, terrorist threat or disaster alert – has become a pretext for making the unavailable available.<\/p>\n\n

    Examples of serious violations of dignity:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

      \n
    • Old people died alone and without relatives<\/strong> in nursing homes and clinics. Their last gaze was often directed at a white wall, not the face of their loved one. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Children have been psychologically worn down<\/strong> by the obligation to wear masks, isolation, compulsory testing, feelings of guilt and fear – at a time when security is essential.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • People who had decided against certain medical measures were defamed, disenfranchised, publicly shamed<\/strong> – as if they were second-class citizens.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Dissenting opinions were censored, pathologized or criminalized<\/strong> instead of being heard and discussed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • People lost their livelihoods<\/strong> because they did not want to subordinate their convictions to the state narrative.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Physical autonomy was replaced by coercive measures<\/strong> – with reference to \u201cthe bigger picture\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

      All of this was described as \u201cnecessary\u201d.But necessity knows no law<\/strong> when it breaks the dignity of the individual.What happened here was often unconstitutional<\/strong>, inhumane<\/strong> – and traumatizing<\/strong> in its long-term effects.<\/p>\n\n

      \n\n

      Why this is dangerous<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

      When you start to make human dignity a bargaining chip, dams are created that can break:<\/p>\n\n

        \n
      • Anyone who attaches conditions to human dignity is dehumanizing<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Anyone who says: \u201cYou have to make compromises in a crisis\u201d is betraying the core of the liberal order.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Anyone who believes that fundamental rights can be \u201cpaused\u201d as soon as it becomes uncomfortable is setting dangerous precedents<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • The definition of what is considered a \u201cstate of emergency\u201d can be manipulated<\/strong> – by the media, governments and expert circles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • People are no longer seen as subjects of the law<\/strong>, but as objects of what can be done.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

        But human dignity is designed for precisely this moment<\/strong>:When things get uncomfortable.When it is difficult to maintain principles.When the majority shouts: \u201cNow is not the time for moral scruples.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

        Then – precisely then – it must stand unassailable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

        Our position<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

        We2030 reminds you of this:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

        • Human dignity is not relative<\/strong>, but absolute<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • It is the supreme benchmark<\/strong> for all government action.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • No law, no state of emergency, no committee, no ministry, no expert council may override them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • A complete review of all measures<\/strong> that violated human dignity and fundamental rights during the state of emergency is needed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Compensation, rehabilitation and public recognition<\/strong> are needed for all those whose dignity has been violated – in old people’s homes, schools, on the streets, in the media and at work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • A new culture of unavailability<\/strong> is needed in which human dignity is no longer treated tactically<\/strong>, but protected unconditionally<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
